WHAT IS A SUBLUXATION?
In
layman’s terms, a subluxation, or Vertebral Subluxation, occurs when
one or more bones of the spine, or vertebrae, move out of alignment and
puts pressure on or irritate the spinal nerves. The spinal nerves are
located between each of the bones in your spine. The pressure or
irritation on these nerves then causes them to malfunction and creates
interference with the body signals, or mental impulses, traveling
through those nerves.
This
interference negatively impacts the nervous system controls that
coordinate optimal body function. So, when one has a subluxation, some
part of your bodywill be adversely affected.
It
is the responsibility of the chiropractor to locate patient
subluxations then reduce or correct them through a series of vertebrae
adjustments. Chiropractors, such as Dr. William K. Haley
in Pleasant Hill, CA, are the only health professionals who undergo
years of education and hands-on training to be the experts at
correcting a subluxation.
HEALING THE SPINE
Only
the body has the innate ability to heal. There is no “magic pill,” no
“secret potion,” or no “special surgery” that can heal from the outside
in when subluxation occurs. Contra Costa county chiropractor Dr.
William K. Haley recognizes that all healing comes from within ones own
natural “life force.”
SYMPTOMS OF SUBLUXATION
The
most common symptom of a subluxation is pain, although other symptoms
include numbness, tingling, and burning. Because we all have different
thresholds of pain some people won’t even realize they have a
subluxation until there is significant tissue damage.
Chiropractors
do not treat the symptom. Dr. Haley points out, “My main focus is to
treat the subluxation by allowing the mental impulse to reach the
tissue cells without interference, so that the patient’s innate body
intelligence can rebuild damaged cells with normal ones.” Chiropractor
Haley adds, “When sufficient normal tissue manifests itself naturally
the symptoms of subluxation will disappear and normal body function,
along with a healthier person, prevails.”
CAUSES OF SUBLUXATION
Physical,
chemical, and even emotional stress can cause subluxations when the
stress is greater than the bodies natural defense (internal resistance).
Physical Stress
is caused by a variety of trauma including whiplash. Whiplash trauma is
not unique to car accidents or being “rear ended.” It can also occur
from a violent push or simply sitting in front of your computer hour
after hour or day after day with your head turned to the same side for
unnatural prolonged period of time. For mothers, even giving birth may
cause a subluxation, because giving birth may exert 40 to 60 pounds of
pressure on the female spine.
Mental Stress is derived from everyday living situations whereby the ligaments and muscles of the body tighten resulting in subluxations.
Chemical Stress
also can cause subluxations from inhaling pollutants, eating too many
sweets (particularly, suger), or overloading the body with
preservatives. Upsetting the body chemistry will often impair the tone
of muscles’ and ligaments’ resulting in subluxations
